Our structural engineers have completed over 2000 structural engineering projects
We have a wide range of experience in commercial and domestic structural projects
We understand that sometimes you need a structural engineer to complete structural calculations the same day in order to place orders for steel beams to reduce downtime on site. We can visit sites in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and West Midlands (county) Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury and surrounding areas within one day a prepare calcs for small projects that are already on site.

Residential Extension
Substantial residential extension to from and rear or property. This was a building over 3 stories. We worked with the client and glazing manufacturers to produce a spectacularly clean frameless 2 story glazed opening at the front of the house. The rear of the house has 2 apex roofs with vaulted ceilings. We used Apex portal frames with steel connection design at the rear of the property. The side of the house had a basement that had subsidence and would not be able to support the new loads, we designed a retaining wall to overcome the subsidence and be able to take the new loading.

Domestic extension
Domestic internal amendments. The 1st floor had a truss structure. 2 members of the truss were required to be cut to allow for a staircase to give access to the 1st floor. We noted the new truss shape and did a structural analysis of the truss members which included 4no posts being added with bracing to take the load from the 1st floor down to the foundations. The client required an assessment of the chimney to determine whether it could be removed without any structural implications, we found that the chimney could be removed with no additional structural members required. There was also a portal frame required for a 10m opening to the rear of the property which required substantial pad foundations being designed.

Domestic New Garage design.
Design of a timber frame truss with timber connection calcs. The trusses were braced and bearing on to steel columns. Steel portal frame design and raft slab design were also included as part of this job. Wind calcs showed that the masonry had the for-wind posts.

Domestic Extension
We were called in after the client had giving builders notice to leave the site. Their structural engineer was nonresponsive. We amended the structural design to remove 2 piers from the room to give the clients a better functioning kitchen space. Wind calcs show that the masonry walls were laterally unstable, so we utilized the beams to portalise the steels that had already been installed. The client was very happy due to the removal of piers and stiffer structure due to additional columns being added.

Leicester. Leicestershire
Domestic Extension
The original structural design had been carried out by another structural engineer. We regularly work closely with the builders who won the job. We optimized the design to increase the ease of buildability. Steel design, masonry pier designs, timber flitch beam designs and pad footing designs we utilized in this project

Commercial Amendments
This building had a change of use from domestic residential to commercial. Construction had been put on hold and the business was losing a lot of money, due to building control requiring verification of the existing trusses. This was a 5-bedroom house that had all the internal walls removed. We conducted a site visit and contacted the truss manufacturer with no avail. Truss calculations were done to check the capacity of the existing truss. Loadings were increased to account for commercial loading, the trusses failed. We came up with a truss strengthening solution which consisted of adding additional timbers and steel plates to the middle 1/3 of the truss span.

New Build with Basement
We had tendered for this job through an architect we work with regularly. The roof was to be designed as a truss. The floor was designed to be as pozi joist. As the basement was made with retaining walls and the rest of the building was an adjacent separate structure, we used a mastic joint to separate the two structures. The ground floor slab was large so contraction joints were used to induced cracks in specific locations there no visible cracks would show as the ground moves beneath it due to cyclic heave pressure changes. The client requested a change of floor from pozi joist to beam and block which we advised would be feasible. This additional work was done at no extra fee

Residential Extension
We had been recommended by a contractor we work with regularly. Single story rear extension. The whole length of the back of the house was being removed. We are experienced in working on projects like this. We introduced a portal box frame with a central column to be hidden in the walls to replace the stiffness that we had removed from the house by removing the rear load-bearing walls. We had to work directly with the party wall surveyor and architects on this project to ensure we did not undermine the adjacent foundations. This included instructing trial holes to determine the depth of adjacent foundations and the design of an eccentric foundation.

Residential Extension
This was a domestic residential read extension with internal load-bearing walls being removed. The client required a 3D analysis of a steel frame which we used Tekla structural designer to compute. This complicated steel frame was optimized to be economical for the client and designed with the beam having spliced connections to allow the builder to remove the need for a crane saving them time, labor and money. A box frame was used to stiffen up the back of the house which had its load-bearing wall removed. We also designed the steel connections and pad foundations on this job.

Residential 3 Story New Build.
The client was not happy with the economics of the ground beam design. We were called in to optimize the ground beam size and rebar sizes, we reduced the size of the ground beams by 25% thereby reducing the amount of concrete required, fill material being removed, and reinforcement steel being used.

New Build Garage
Large 100m2 garage. This design consisted of truss design, masonry design, portal fame design, beam, and block design and ground beam design.

Commercial Extension,
Raft foundation design with a steel frame to keep the new extension separate from the existing building to remove the potential of cracking from differential movement in the two structures
Granby Street Loughborough LE11 3DU

Commercial New Build
We were hired by the groundworks contractor to design the foundations. The foundation consisted of ground beams and piles. The design was carried out in Tekla Structural Designer.

Holyhurst Grove, Shirley, B90 2RD
Residential extension
This residential extension had an 8m double glazed opening. We opted to use a box portal frame. The roof was vaulted so we designed timber trussed at 6m centers to give the building a traditional yet modern open-air space. Other design elements were timber, steel, connections, masonry, wind calcs, and foundation design.

Residential New Build
We were appointed by a groundworks contractor to optimize the loadings. We used Tekla structural designer to design the ground beam and come up with a solution where pile loadings we no more than 100kN. The site had many constraints such as trees and narrow access. By reducing the pile loadings, the contractor was able to use a smaller piling rig and pass these savings on to the client.

Domestic extension
Consisted of 3 large timber frame dormers and a ground floor rear extension with vaulted ceiling, this was designed by the use of a cranked steel frame.
Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, LE12 8NA
Leicestershire
Domestic extension
Domestic extension to the front back and side of residential property. There was a flat roof to the rear and half of the side of the property had a flat roof and the other half had an angled roof. Typical design elements include timber design, masonry design, lintel design, and foundation design.

Woodgreen Road, Oldbury, West Midlands B68 0DF
Birmingham
Domestic extension
Residential extension to the back and side of the property. The property required underpinning as there was a new lower level basement being added with a swimming pool. The Swimming pool was designed using RC retaining walls. There was a substantial steel frame in which we used Tekla structural designer to analyze and design. A few minor amendments to the existing roof.

Domestic Alteration.
We were called in the architect to assist in the design of raft slab, portal frame to include steel beams, columns, lintel design timber design and masonry design

Main Street, Kirby Muxloe, LE9 2AN
Leicestershire
Domestic extension
Extension to side and rear of the property. The side extension was on the 1st floor level on top of a ground floor garage. Side extension has a vaulted roof which we designed crank steel, we had to check the masonry to ensure that the horizontal loading would not cause any structural defects. The rear extension had a vaulted roof for which a large ridge beam was designed, this was portalise.
